Two Quick and Easy Layouts with December Days | Kathleen Graumüller
Hey there :) It’s Kathleen here again and today I get to share two layouts with you that I made using the pretty „December Days“ collection. What I love most about it is that it doesn’t use the traditional Christmas colors. Isn’t the combination of those blues with the red and soft pink just gorgeous? And it still feels very winter-y which is great because I will probably have more photos documenting Winter moments rather than really Christmas-sy photos.
One of those moments is the first red cup of the year from Starbucks. The red of the Starbucks cup in the photo is the exact same shade as the red in the December Days papers and embellishments.
For my 8.5“x11“ layout I used a wide strip of the backside of the Candy Canes paper on the right side and layered my photo together with some pieces of other papers onto it. The 6x6“ Paper Pad is perfect for layering because you will only see one side anyways and since the patterns are scaled down, they will stand out more :) I also used one of the cards from the Journaling Cards Package because that light blue card with the snow flakes was just too perfect.
Before I added all those layers, however, I used some white gesso and a Christmas/winter-themed Tim Holtz stencil to add some more texture to my page. I love the subtle effects you get from layering white on white.
It’s difficult to see in those photos, but I also used my Nuvo Drops in „Red Berry“ to fill in the red crosses on the big strip of patterned paper for even more texture. For embellishing I used some pieces from the Die Cuts package, the Cardstock Phrase Stickers and the Wooden Buttons. The only thing I added from another collection are the blue phrase stickers from the „Boys Fort“ collection - but don’t they just look like they were made for this one, too?
I absolutely love when I’m able to mix and match different collections!
Now for my second layout I wanted to use up some paper scraps that I had left after I had finished another project with the December Days collection.
I started layering them but then decided that I wanted to show more of them on my page because the patterns are just so cute, so I thought of arranging them in a way that (to me at least :D ) looked a bit like a quilt.
The only „problem“ was that my photo didn’t really stand out anymore because the patterns were a bit distracting but when looking through my December Days products, I saw those Cardstock Sticker Frames and thought that the candy cane-striped one would probably look great and help make my photo pop - and it does! :D
To repeat the stars from my photo, I scattered some of the stars from the Wooden Stickers and the Puffy Stickers across my page and also used a roller stamp from my stash for those little stamped stars.
Because I absolutely adore puffy stickers, I had to use more of them, so I also added those little trees at the bottom and the „Merry Everything“ phrase as my title.
Because the patterns were quite busy and I didn’t want to add my journaling on the small white part that was left on this page, I used this little tag from the Die Cuts package for my journaling and finished it off with some gold and white baker’s twine.
I’m quite happy with the overall look, even though this layout is much more busy and filled with patterned paper than most of my pages. But it helps that the patterned papers are so pretty, haha :D
I hope you enjoyed today’s projects! Have you started making Christmas or winter-themed projects? What have you made so far?
