Hi Pinkfresh Studio Friends

Today I am sharing a slimline birthday balloon card that I designed using a technique called masking. I have been wanting to show masking to you for some time, and when the Ribbons & Balloons stamp set was released in April, I knew this was the perfect set to do this technique.

With masking, you first stamp the image on the cardstock base where you want it to be. You then stamp the image again on masking paper. You need to fussy cut the image out of the masking paper. Reason being, you need to cut close to the edge as the coordinating dies do not get close enough.

Use the mask to cover your original stamped image on your cardstock. Then, stamp the image again over the masking paper. You could repeat this process as many times as you wish. One thing to remember. Whatever you stamped originally on your cardstock, will be the image that shows fully when you peel away all the masking. This is how you can create scenes on your cards.

I used a cloud stencil for my background but that is not necessary as backgrounds can be just ink blended in whatever colours you wish. I used Summer Shower and Seaside for mine. After peeling away the masking I used the Ribbons & Balloons Coordinating Stencils, ink blending Ballet Slipper and Sparkling Rose for the balloons and flowers, and Fresh Pear for the greenery. Just to mention, before I peeled away the mask, I did add a few white splatters.

Using Copic markers I added some darker colour around the base of the balloons, just for some added depth. Guess what I did to finish?? Well, I covered all the balloons in Glossy Accents! They are sooooo shiny! Of course, the faithful Metallic Silver Pearls matched perfectly for the extra something, something.

Have I inspired you to try this technique? Pinkfresh Studio has amazing florals to try this on!

You will be pleased to know that I made a reel for my card and in a minute I was able to show you the masking in action. Make sure you keep an eye out for it over on Instagram @pinkfreshstudio

Well friends, until next time....

Cheryl
